Is An Amazon Robot in Your Future?
With voice-enabled Echo assistants already changing the way many of us live today, Amazon is rumored to be taking technology one step further by creating robots for the home.
Although details are scarce and unconfirmed, the new robots could be mobile versions of Amazon Echo devices, able to follow people around the house, according to a recent Bloomberg article. This could send the virtual assistant Alexa into new areas of the home where Echo is not available and boost the effectiveness of smart home technology such as health sensors.
The Echo—as well as Amazon technology being developed with seniors in mind—could help increase aging in place, allowing older adults to easily order needed items, control their home environments, and stay in touch with loved ones.
Amazon will not confirm the development of what is being called the "Vesta" prototype, but it is speculated they will be testing versions of the robot in employee homes by year-end, and in consumer homes as early as 2019.
