3 Tips to Keep Your Brain Healthy

There is growing evidence of how important diet and other lifestyle factors are to healthy brain aging. Here are a few tips to keep your brain healthy as you age.

1. Eat a salad a day-- People who eat leafy green vegetables every day may maintain a sharper mind as they age, according to a recent study. The researchers found that, compared with people who rarely ate leafy greens, those who had at least one serving a day showed slower brain aging. It was as if they'd shaved 11 years off their age -- as far as their brain function was concerned.

2. Take a walk-- A team of investigators from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) found that adults over the age of 60 who are already struggling with memory issues are better able to focus and process information if they walk more than 4,000 steps a day (roughly 2 miles).

3. Get some sleep-- Too much or too little sleep may impact your brain function according to the AARP's Global Council on Brain Health. A minimum of seven hours per night is recommended.
