Spring Forward, Keep Routine

Caregivers alert: today Daylight Savings Time begins, and you should have moved your clocks forward.

Changing the clock does not have to mean changing the routine. However, it may take a little adjustment, as your loved one may not be aware of the time change and how it could alter his/her schedule.

Luckily springing forward is a bit easier than falling back. Your loved one may start the day later, but meals should be served at the usual times if possible, so as not to upset the daily flow he/she is used to. Bedtime may be more of a challenge with the sun setting later, so consider introducing relaxing activities earlier in the evening, despite the lighting. If necessary, draw the shades, or move to a darker room if necessary.

See our previous post on sundowning or more tips to help with the adjustment.
